How do I share my iCloud calendar as a link?

If you keep your schedule in Apple's Calendar app with iCloud, you can share a calendar as a link. Other calendars, like Google Calendar, Outlook or your booking page, can subscribe to that link: your Apple events show there and follow when you change them.

The link goes one way, from iCloud to the other calendar. Anything you add on the other side doesn't reach your iCloud calendar.

Before you start: use a calendar for busy times

Apple has no "busy times only" option. A shared iCloud calendar shows each event's title, place and notes to anyone who has the link.

So share a calendar that holds only your sessions, with titles that name no client (like "Session"), or make one for it: in Calendar, choose File > New Calendar on a Mac, or Add Calendar on an iPhone, and pick iCloud.

Only the calendar's owner can share it, and a calendar stored On My Mac can't be shared this way.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Calendar and tap Calendars.
  2. Tap the (i) button next to the iCloud calendar.
  3. Turn on Public Calendar.
  4. Tap Share Link, then Copy.

On iCloud.com

  1. Go to icloud.com/calendar and sign in.
  2. Point at the calendar in the sidebar and click the Calendar Info button next to its name.
  3. Turn on Public Calendar.
  4. Click Copy.

The link starts with webcal://. Paste it as it is.

2. Add it to another calendar

Google Calendar

  1. On a computer, open Google Calendar. Google only adds a link on its website, not in the phone app.
  2. Next to Other calendars, click +, then From URL.
  3. Paste the link, leave Make the calendar publicly accessible unticked, and click Add calendar.

Google can take several hours to show changes from a link, and it can't be made to check sooner.

Outlook

In Outlook on the web or Outlook.com, open Calendar, then Add calendar > Subscribe from web. Paste the link, give it a name and click Import.

Promptd

If you take new clients on Promptd, add the link to your page so clients can't book over your Apple events: open Openings, press Add next to Calendar link in the Calendars card, paste the link and press Add. Promptd keeps only the start and end of each event. More in Add a calendar link.

Good to know

  • Making a new link. Turn Public Calendar off, then on again. Users report the link changes and the old one stops working. Add the new link to your other calendars; on Promptd, press Manage next to the iCloud link, then Replace link.
  • One calendar per link. Each iCloud calendar has its own link. Share each calendar that should show elsewhere.
  • Stop sharing. Turning Public Calendar off stops the link everywhere it was added.
