How we verify your licence
When you publish your page or save a change to a credential, we look up each credential from a Québec order in that order's public register. If the register confirms it, clients see a Verified label in the top right corner of that credential's card on your page. You don't have to do anything to start the check.
The label belongs to the credential, not to you as a person. It tells clients that this one licence matches the order's register, nothing more.
What clients see
On your page, under Credentials, each verified credential shows Verified. When a client hovers over it or taps it, they see:
- one sentence on what we compared (see below);
- the month of the last check;
- a How we verify link to an article written for clients, which also explains the limits of the check.
Credentials we couldn't confirm show normally, without the label. Clients never see a "not found" or "under review" status.
What we compare
It depends on what your order's register shows.
| Order | What we compare |
|---|---|
| OTSTCFQ, OPPQ, OPSQ, OEQ | Your permit number and your name, in the same register entry |
| OCCOQ, OPCQ | Your name only, because the register is searched by name |
| OPQ | Your name only, in the OPQ's public referral directory, which doesn't show permit numbers |
Clients see which kind of check it was. A name-only check says plainly that the permit number wasn't compared.
The name we compare is the name on your page. The Provider name on your credential is filled in from it.
When we check
- When you publish your page.
- When you add or change a credential (order, permit number or name). The label can take a few minutes to appear.
- Again every six months, for every credential.
If we stop finding a match at the six-month check, the label comes off until the register confirms the credential again.
Why a credential might not be verified
- Your name differs from the register. For example, the register lists a second surname, a maiden name or a different spelling. Use the name your order lists on your page, or write to us if that isn't possible.
- The permit number has a typo. Check the Issuing number or name field against your order's register.
- You're a psychologist who isn't in the OPQ's referral directory. The OPQ's main register can't be searched automatically, so we can only confirm psychologists listed in its referral directory. Many valid psychologists aren't there.
- The register shows a restriction or an inactive membership. For orders whose register lists these, the credential doesn't get the label.
- It's a supervised credential. We don't check credentials held under supervision.
- It's a certification or training, such as EMDR, or a licence from outside Québec, or an order we don't cover yet. These never get the label.
None of this hides the credential or changes how it appears. It simply shows without the label.
Your permit number stays private
If you turned on Hide my licence number on my profile, we still use the number to check your credential, and it stays hidden from clients. The label tells them we compared it; it doesn't show it.
What the check is not
- It isn't an identity check. We confirm the licence exists in the register under your name. We don't check ID, and the client article says so.
- It doesn't affect your ranking. The label isn't part of your discovery score and doesn't change where you appear in search.
Something looks wrong
If you think a credential should be verified and isn't, or the label shows on something it shouldn't, write to us at support@promptd.app with the order and your permit number. We'll look at it by hand.
