About Promptd: what it is and how it works
Looking for a therapist usually goes like this: twenty open tabs, prices nowhere to be found, "accepting new clients?" a mystery, and profiles that all read the same. We looked at that experience and thought: this could be so much better. Promptd is our answer.
What Promptd is
Promptd is where you find a mental health professional you can actually picture yourself talking to. Clinics and independent providers across Montreal and its surrounding cities, in person and online, in English and in French, on a platform designed and developed right here in Montreal.
It started in 2025 with two of us: a software developer and a psychologist-in-training who, through her clinical training, kept watching people hit the same wall: no clear pricing, no idea what insurance covers, profiles that barely scratch the surface. So we built the platform we wished existed, where the basics are front and center. Every profile shows real prices, insurance and government-program coverage, and how the person actually works, so you can compare what matters instead of guessing. Today that means 180+ professionals, 25+ services, and providers who speak 14 languages between them. And we're just getting started.
Two promises sit behind every search result:
- Providers speak for themselves. Every profile is written by the practitioner: their own words, their own prices, kept up to date by them. You're reading the person, not a brochure.
- No one can buy their way to the top. Ranking rewards complete, genuinely useful profiles. A provider cannot pay to appear above another, full stop.
Even the name is part of the idea: providers build their pages through guided prompts that draw out what makes their practice unique, and we hope the whole thing prompts you to take that first step.
What Promptd is not
Choosing a mental health provider is deeply personal, and trust starts with being straight about what we are, so here's the other side.
Promptd is not a healthcare provider. Everything on the site is information to help you choose; it is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment, and using the site does not create a professional and patient relationship.
Promptd is not a crisis service. If you are in an emergency, call 911. In Quebec, Info-Social at 811 (option 2) and the Suicide Crisis Helpline at 9-8-8 are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How it works, step by step
- Search your way. Head to the search page and use the filters, or just type what you're looking for into the Smart filters box in plain words, the way you'd say it to a friend. Not sure where to start? Get matched asks a few questions and a real person sends you a shortlist.
- Compare what actually matters. Every profile puts services and prices, coverage, approach, languages, availability, and typical response time in the same places, so comparing three providers takes minutes, not an evening.
-
Message them directly. Every profile has a Message button. Write to one provider or several; each conversation stays in one tidy place, and nobody gets your email address from it.
-
Start when you're ready. Agree on a first appointment right in the chat, or use the provider's booking link when they have one. No pressure, no countdown timers. This is your decision, at your pace.
Who you'll find on Promptd
Independent practitioners and whole clinics, across four areas of care: therapy, psychological evaluations, communication and language, and family mediation.
The range runs wider than you might expect: psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, counsellors, psychoeducators, family and couple therapists, sex therapists and sexologists, art, music, and drama therapists, family mediators, guidance counsellors, nurses, and naturopaths.
Every provider lists their credentials, license number, and professional order, and each credential links to the order's site so you can verify it yourself in seconds.
Getting in touch with providers
The Message button on every profile and search card is the front door, and providers here actually answer it: across the platform, 89% reply within 24 hours, and half reply within 8. Profiles show a typical first-reply time ("Responds within X", or the Responds quickly badge for the fastest), so you know what to expect before you write a word. Some providers also offer Instant booking if you'd rather skip straight to the calendar.
Nervous about the first message? You're not alone, and messaging providers walks you through it.
What it costs
Nothing. Promptd is completely free for clients. Browse, filter, read profiles, explore guides and shared collections, all without an account. The only things that need a free account are messaging providers and saving favourites.
Providers pay a flat monthly subscription to be listed, which is how we keep the lights on without ever selling placement. Session fees are set by each provider and shown openly on their profile, and many offer reduced or subsidized rates.
