About Promptd

In 2025, a therapist and a software engineer set out to raise the bar for mental health marketplaces

We looked at how people search for mental health services and thought: this could be so much better.

We bring tech to mental health so that finding the right provider feels as intuitive and personal as the experience you get on your favourite apps. Today, we represent clinics and independent mental health professionals across Montreal and its surrounding cities, in-person and online.

And we're just getting started.

What our users say

Spent close to two years trying to find a therapist. Waitlists, no callbacks, people who weren't the right fit. Ended up finding someone through Promptd in like a week.

Nadia

I run a small law firm and needed a family mediator for a case. I did not find anyone in my network so I tried Promptd and found someone pretty quickly.

Catherine

Nice to actually see prices listed upfront. Saves you from having to call around just to figure out what you can afford.

Your questions, answered

What is anger management therapy?

Anger management therapy is structured counselling that helps you understand what triggers your anger, recognize the thoughts and sensations that build up before a reaction, and replace them with responses that match what you actually want to happen. It is usually one-to-one rather than group-based, and it goes beyond surface techniques to address what is fueling the anger.

What is the best therapy for anger management?

CBT therapy has the strongest evidence base and is the default starting point. It helps identify the thoughts that escalate anger and replaces them with more accurate ones. DBT therapy skills work well when emotions intensify too quickly to think through, which is common for people who describe going from calm to furious with nothing in between. Motivational interviewing and acceptance-based approaches are also used.

What is the difference between anger management classes and anger management therapy?

Classes or courses are usually group-based, standardized, time-limited (often 8 to 12 sessions), and focused on teaching skills. They are often used to satisfy a court order, employer requirement, or custody condition. Therapy is typically one-to-one, individualized, and can go deeper into the history and patterns underneath the anger. Many people do both, or start with a class and continue with therapy if the anger keeps showing up.

Does anger management actually work?

Research on CBT-based anger management shows moderate to large effects for reducing frequency and intensity of anger episodes, particularly when the person is motivated rather than only attending to check a box. People who practice skills between sessions and address underlying issues like substance use or trauma tend to see the biggest changes. Ongoing effort matters more than the specific format.

How do I know if I need anger management?

Common signs include getting angry more often or more intensely than situations warrant, regretting things you said or did while angry, anger that affects relationships or work performance, people close to you raising concerns, physical symptoms like chest tightness or jaw clenching when frustrated, and using substances to calm down. A one-session consult can help clarify whether a class, therapy, or both fits your situation.

What issues often show up alongside anger?

Anger rarely travels alone. Irritability is a core symptom of depression counselling and often masks it, particularly in men. Unresolved trauma and PTSD therapists can produce anger that feels disproportionate to current events, and addiction counselling to alcohol, substances, or compulsive behaviours amplifies reactivity. When anger is primarily damaging a relationship, couples therapy alongside individual work often gets further than either on its own.

Are anger management classes accepted for court orders or employer requirements?

Some are, some are not. Requirements vary by court, jurisdiction, and the specific order. Common conditions include a minimum number of hours, a group rather than individual format, a certified facilitator, and a completion certificate. Before enrolling, ask the provider whether their program meets the exact conditions your order specifies, and when in doubt, confirm with the referring party before paying.

What techniques do anger management therapists use?

Core techniques include cognitive restructuring (catching and reframing escalating thoughts), physiological regulation (breathing, grounding, time-outs before the reaction peaks), communication skills that are assertive rather than aggressive, and exposure or rehearsal of trigger situations. Worksheets, journaling between sessions, and role-play are common. The work shifts over time from in-the-moment tools to deeper pattern change.

How long does anger management therapy take?

Short, focused work runs 6 to 12 sessions for specific triggers or skill building. Longer-term work of 3 to 6 months or more is common when anger is tied to trauma, a long history, or co-occurring issues. Many people drop to monthly check-ins once they have skills in place, returning for more intensive sessions during high-stress periods.

Can I do anger management online?

Yes. Individual anger management therapy translates well to video sessions, and online programs or courses are widely available, including some that satisfy court or employer requirements. The main limitation is that group classes held online may not allow the same practice environment as in-person. online therapy is a good starting point for comparing remote providers across Canada.
