About Promptd

In 2025, a therapist and a software engineer set out to raise the bar for mental health marketplaces

We looked at how people search for mental health services and thought: this could be so much better.

We bring tech to mental health so that finding the right provider feels as intuitive and personal as the experience you get on your favourite apps. Today, we represent clinics and independent mental health professionals across Montreal and its surrounding cities, in-person and online.

And we're just getting started.

What our users say

Spent close to two years trying to find a therapist. Waitlists, no callbacks, people who weren't the right fit. Ended up finding someone through Promptd in like a week.

Nadia

I run a small law firm and needed a family mediator for a case. I did not find anyone in my network so I tried Promptd and found someone pretty quickly.

Catherine

Nice to actually see prices listed upfront. Saves you from having to call around just to figure out what you can afford.

Jordan

The messaging suggested a few other therapists I could reach out to. My first pick didn't end up working out, but one of the suggestions was actually a great fit.

Samira

I'm an international student at McGill and figuring out what my insurance covers was confusing. On here I could just filter for who takes my plan.

Léo

The filters are really useful. I found someone who speaks my language, is nearby, and takes my insurance without having to dig through a bunch of websites.

Your questions, answered

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ+ therapist?

Seeing an LGBTQ+ therapists therapist can provide a sense of safety and understanding, especially when discussing topics related to sexual orientation or gender identity. These therapists often have personal insight into LGBTQ+ experiences and may better understand the unique challenges you face, such as coming out, discrimination, family acceptance, or navigating relationships. You may feel more comfortable opening up without needing to explain basic concepts about LGBTQ+ life.

What does it mean when a therapist identifies as LGBTQ+?

When therapists identify as LGBTQ+, it means they personally belong to the LGBTQ+ community. They may identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, nonbinary, or another identity within the spectrum. This is different from being an LGBTQ+ "ally" or "affirming" therapist, who supports the community but may not personally identify as LGBTQ+. Both can provide excellent care, but some clients prefer working with someone who shares their lived experience.

Are LGBTQ+ therapists trained in gender-affirming care?

Many LGBTQ+ therapists therapists have training in gender-affirming care, though this varies by individual. Gender-affirming care involves supporting clients in exploring and expressing their gender identity without judgment. If you're seeking support for gender-related concerns, such as gender dysphoria or transitioning, ask potential therapists about their specific training and experience in this area. Some therapists can also provide assessment letters for hormone therapy or surgeries if needed.

Can I see an LGBTQ+ therapist for issues unrelated to my identity?

Absolutely. LGBTQ+ therapists are trained mental health professionals who can help with any issue, not just identity-related concerns. Whether you're dealing with anxiety therapists, Depression counselling, relationship problems, work stress, or other challenges, an LGBTQ+ therapist can provide effective treatment. Some clients simply prefer working with someone from their community regardless of the presenting issue, and that's a valid reason to seek out an LGBTQ+ provider.

How do I know if a therapist is LGBTQ+ affirming vs. LGBTQ+ identifying?

An LGBTQ+ affirming therapist supports and validates LGBTQ+ clients but may not personally identify as LGBTQ+. An LGBTQ+ identifying therapist is themselves a member of the community. On Promptd, LGBTQ+ therapists have self-identified as members of the LGBTQ+ community. If this distinction is important to you, you can ask therapists directly about their identity during an initial consultation. Both affirming and identifying therapists can provide excellent, culturally competent care.
