About Promptd

In 2025, a therapist and a software engineer set out to raise the bar for mental health marketplaces

We looked at how people search for mental health services and thought: this could be so much better.

We bring tech to mental health so that finding the right provider feels as intuitive and personal as the experience you get on your favourite apps. Today, we represent clinics and independent mental health professionals across Montreal and its surrounding cities, in-person and online.

And we're just getting started.

What our users say

Spent close to two years trying to find a therapist. Waitlists, no callbacks, people who weren't the right fit. Ended up finding someone through Promptd in like a week.

Nadia

I run a small law firm and needed a family mediator for a case. I did not find anyone in my network so I tried Promptd and found someone pretty quickly.

Catherine

Nice to actually see prices listed upfront. Saves you from having to call around just to figure out what you can afford.

Your questions, answered

What kind of therapy is best for anxiety?

CBT therapy is the most researched approach for anxiety and works by targeting avoidance behaviours and distorted threat appraisals. It is the first-line treatment for generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and phobias. ACT therapy takes a different angle by building psychological flexibility so anxious thoughts lose their grip without needing to be eliminated. Exposure-based work is a component of most effective anxiety treatments regardless of the broader framework.

How many sessions of therapy are needed for anxiety?

Most evidence-based anxiety treatments run 8 to 16 sessions. Specific phobias can resolve in fewer sessions with focused exposure work. Generalized anxiety and social anxiety often need the full course to consolidate gains. If anxiety has a traumatic origin, trauma and PTSD therapists work may be needed first and can extend the overall timeline. Your therapist should set clear targets and review progress regularly.

How do you help someone with anxiety?

Avoid excessive reassurance, which can reinforce the anxiety cycle. Instead, validate that the feeling is real without agreeing that the feared outcome is likely. Do not force someone into situations they are avoiding, but gently encourage small steps. Offer practical help like researching therapists or attending a first appointment together. If someone is in crisis, help them contact a crisis line or emergency services.

Can therapy help with panic attacks?

Yes. Therapy for panic focuses on interoceptive exposure (safely reproducing physical sensations like rapid heartbeat or dizziness so they lose their threat value), breathing retraining, and cognitive restructuring of catastrophic interpretations. If mood drops due to avoidance patterns, depression counselling support can help in parallel. If panic co-occurs with intense emotional swings, DBT therapy skills may be added for stabilization.

Does anxiety therapy work for social anxiety?

Yes. Social anxiety responds well to structured treatment combining cognitive restructuring (challenging beliefs about judgment and rejection) with graduated exposure to social situations. Group therapy formats can be especially effective because the group itself becomes a live exposure environment. Most people see meaningful improvement within 12 to 16 sessions when they engage consistently with exposure homework between appointments.

How much does anxiety therapy cost in Canada?

Sessions typically cost between $120 and $250 per hour depending on the provider's credentials and location. Psychologists tend to charge more than psychotherapists, counsellors, or social workers. Extended health insurance often covers part of the fee with a proper receipt. Some community organizations and university training clinics offer low-cost or sliding-scale anxiety treatment.

Is therapy for anxiety free in Canada?

Some options exist. Provincial programs like Ontario's Structured Psychotherapy Program offer funded therapy for anxiety. Community mental health centres, university training clinics, and nonprofit organizations sometimes provide free or low-cost sessions. Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) through your employer may include a set number of sessions at no cost. Waitlists for funded programs can be long, so private options may be faster if budget allows.

When is therapy not working for anxiety?

If you have attended 8 to 12 sessions with consistent engagement and homework practice but see no meaningful change in symptoms or avoidance, it is worth discussing with your therapist. Possible reasons include a mismatch between the approach and your type of anxiety, an unidentified co-occurring condition, or the need for medication to support progress. Switching therapists or approaches is not failure; it is a normal part of finding what works.

What is the difference between generalized anxiety and other anxiety disorders?

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) involves chronic, diffuse worry across many areas of life. Panic disorder involves sudden, intense attacks with physical symptoms. Social anxiety centres on fear of judgment or embarrassment in social situations. Phobias are intense fear responses to specific triggers like heights, needles, or flying. OCD therapists involves intrusive unwanted thoughts and compulsive behaviours, and while often grouped with anxiety, it requires a different treatment approach.

Can I do anxiety therapy online?

Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual delivery of CBT for anxiety produces outcomes comparable to in-person sessions. online therapy can be especially practical when commute time, childcare, or schedule constraints make office visits difficult. Some exposure exercises may need adaptation for a virtual setting, but most anxiety treatment protocols work well remotely.
