About Promptd

In 2025, a therapist and a software engineer set out to raise the bar for mental health marketplaces

We looked at how people search for mental health services and thought: this could be so much better.

We bring tech to mental health so that finding the right provider feels as intuitive and personal as the experience you get on your favourite apps. Today, we represent clinics and independent mental health professionals across Montreal and its surrounding cities, in-person and online.

And we're just getting started.

What our users say

Spent close to two years trying to find a therapist. Waitlists, no callbacks, people who weren't the right fit. Ended up finding someone through Promptd in like a week.

Nadia

I run a small law firm and needed a family mediator for a case. I did not find anyone in my network so I tried Promptd and found someone pretty quickly.

Catherine

Nice to actually see prices listed upfront. Saves you from having to call around just to figure out what you can afford.

Your questions, answered

Why choose a Black therapist?

Shared cultural understanding can improve safety, trust, and communication. Black therapists and psychologists may bring lived experience that helps contextualize stressors like racial stress, code-switching, and intergenerational patterns. Fit still matters beyond identity. If funding and coverage are part of access, review NIHB considerations and confirm paperwork directly with the provider.

How do I find a Black therapist near me?

On Promptd, filter by identity and location to see Black therapists and psychologists accepting clients in your area. Each profile shows fees, credentials, specialties, and availability so you can compare before reaching out. If options are limited locally, many providers offer secure video sessions across provincial lines.

Do I need to be Black to see a Black therapist?

No. Black therapists work with clients of all backgrounds. Some people seek a Black therapist specifically for shared cultural context, while others choose one based on specialty, approach, or availability. What matters most is the fit between you and your provider.

Can a Black therapist help with racial trauma or racism-related stress?

Yes. Racial trauma, intergenerational trauma, and the cumulative impact of discrimination are areas where shared cultural context can be especially valuable. Many Black therapists are trained in trauma-focused methods. Start with trauma and PTSD therapists to browse providers, and explore EMDR therapy if memory reprocessing is relevant to your situation.

What should I look for beyond identity when choosing a therapist?

Specialty, approach, and practical fit all matter. If worry or panic is the main concern, filtering for anxiety therapists can help. For persistent low mood, try depression counselling. For relationship work, start with couples therapists or family therapists. Then check fees, insurance coverage, session format, and availability to narrow your shortlist.

What if there are no Black therapists in my area?

Many Black therapists on Promptd offer secure video sessions, which means you are not limited to providers in your immediate city. Virtual sessions can significantly expand your options, especially outside major centres like Toronto and Montreal. Filter for remote availability and you will likely see a much wider selection.

How much does it cost to see a Black therapist in Canada?

Fees are comparable to other therapists in your area, typically $100 to $220 per hour depending on credentials, specialization, and province. Some offer sliding-scale rates, and extended health benefits often reimburse sessions with registered psychologists, social workers, or psychotherapists. Ask about direct billing or receipt format when booking.
