About Promptd

In 2025, a therapist and a software engineer set out to raise the bar for mental health marketplaces

We looked at how people search for mental health services and thought: this could be so much better.

We bring tech to mental health so that finding the right provider feels as intuitive and personal as the experience you get on your favourite apps. Today, we represent clinics and independent mental health professionals across Montreal and its surrounding cities, in-person and online.

And we're just getting started.

What our users say

Spent close to two years trying to find a therapist. Waitlists, no callbacks, people who weren't the right fit. Ended up finding someone through Promptd in like a week.

Nadia

I run a small law firm and needed a family mediator for a case. I did not find anyone in my network so I tried Promptd and found someone pretty quickly.

Catherine

Nice to actually see prices listed upfront. Saves you from having to call around just to figure out what you can afford.

Your questions, answered

What is relationship counselling?

Relationship counselling is a structured process that helps partners improve communication, reduce conflict, and rebuild trust. It covers dating relationships, common-law partnerships, and marriages. Sessions focus on identifying patterns, practicing new ways to communicate, and working through specific issues like intimacy, stress, decision-making, or co-parenting. Marriage counselling is the same process applied specifically within a marriage.

Does marriage counselling work?

Research shows that evidence-based approaches like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method produce lasting improvements for a majority of couples who commit to the process. Outcomes depend on both partners' willingness to engage, the severity of the issues, and how early you start. Counselling is most effective when both people are open to examining their own patterns, not just pointing out the other person's.

What is the Gottman method?

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples work developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. It focuses on building friendship, managing conflict constructively, and creating shared meaning. Therapists trained in this method use structured assessments and interventions to help partners identify destructive patterns (criticism, contempt, defensiveness, stonewalling) and replace them with healthier responses.

How much does relationship or marriage counselling cost?

In Canada, sessions typically range from $150 to $250 per hour depending on the therapist's credentials, location, and approach. Some offer sliding-scale fees or reduced rates for longer commitments. Extended health benefits may reimburse part of the cost if the therapist is a registered psychologist, social worker, or psychotherapist. Check your plan for eligible provider types and annual caps.

Can counselling help after infidelity?

Yes. The process centers on safety, accountability, and structured repair. Early sessions focus on stabilization and understanding the impact before moving into rebuilding trust. If the betrayal triggers past trauma responses like shutdown, panic, or hypervigilance, trauma and PTSD therapists-informed work can support stabilization alongside relationship sessions. Co-parenting plans can develop in parallel when children are involved.

What is premarital counselling?

Premarital counselling helps couples align on expectations, values, and practical plans before committing to marriage. Topics often include finances, communication styles, conflict resolution, family boundaries, children, and roles. It is not about finding problems; it is about building a shared framework so you handle inevitable disagreements more effectively from the start.

How do I prepare for my first session?

Think about what you want to change and what you hope the relationship looks like on the other side. You do not need to have it all figured out. Many therapists send an intake form beforehand to gather history and goals. Be prepared to hear your partner's perspective without interrupting. The first session is usually about understanding the situation, not solving everything at once.

What type of therapist should I choose for relationship work?

Look for a therapist with specific training in relationship or couples methods like EFT or Gottman. Start with couples therapists to find providers with this focus. If the main issue is intimacy, desire, or sexual concerns, sex therapists may be a better match. If broader household dynamics or parenting stress are central, family therapists can also help.
